Students race to solve the mystery during LEGO competition!
Cadillac - May 29, 2015
For the past 10 years the Manistee, Wexford-Missaukee Regional Mathematics and Science Center along with the Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District host a LEGO competition and exposition for the local districts in our region. This year the theme of the competition was Scooby Doo! The LEGO mat had numerous obstacles that the teams had to program their robots to complete. Some of the obstacles required the use of a bump sensor, a light sensor, and to download a sound file for the robot to say something at a certain point.
This year we had four schools participate for a total 60 students and teachers. The schools represented were: Cadillac Area Public Schools, McBain Rural Agricultural Schools, Northern Michigan Christian and Pine River Area Schools. There were 16 teams that competed in the challenge and 3 teams that participated in the exposition. Prizes were given to the top three teams. The top three teams were determined by completion of each portion of the challenge in the fastest amount of time. First place went to Northern Michigan Christian, Comic Programmers with a time of 0:35. Second place went to a team from McBain with a time of 1:20 and third place to another Northern Michigan Christian team with a time of 1:49.A huge thank you to all our teachers, students, Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center, Toy Town of Cadillac, and Cadillac 5 Cinema for supporting and donating to the 2015 LEGO Challenge and Exposition.
