Cadillac - June 3, 21016

For the past 11 years the Manistee, Wexford-Missaukee Regional Mathematics and Science Center along with the Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District host a LEGO competition and exposition for the local districts in our region.  This year the theme of the competition was Star Wars! The LEGO mat had numerous obstacles that the teams had to program their robots to complete.  Some of the obstacles required the use of a bump sensor, a light sensor, and to download a sound file for the robot to say something at a certain point.

This year we had three schools participate for a total 56 students and teachers.  The schools represented were: Cadillac Area Public Schools, McBain Rural Agricultural Schools, and Pine River Area Schools.  There were 12 teams that competed in the challenge, 3 teams that participated in the exposition, and 3 display teams.  Prizes were given to the top four competition teams.  The top four teams were determined by completion of each portion of the challenge in the fastest amount of time.  First place went to a Pine River team, with a time of 1:19.  Second place went to a team from Cadillac with a time of 2:33.  Third and fourth place went to two teams from Pine River.

A huge thank you to all our teachers, students, Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center, Toy Town of Cadillac, the YMCA, and Cadillac 5 Cinema for supporting and donating to the 2016 LEGO Challenge and Exposition.
