Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center Students Participate in a Mock Disaster

posted Dec 8, 2015, 10:41 AM by Jennifer Gaffke

On December 2, a disaster hit the campus of the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center (WMCTC).  Fortunately, it was only a mock disaster and no one was injured.  The mock disaster was a collaboration between the Public Safety and Digital Media Production programs at the WMCTC and the Paramedic program at Baker College for emergency training purposes.

During this training exercise, the Public Safety students served as volunteers, while the paramedics performed all of the necessary procedures to ensure that proper treatment was provided.  The Digital Media Production students filmed the event and have developed a video memoir to share with the Baker College Paramedic program.  Other CTC students witnessed the “mass casualty” event and the extensive treatment process.

After the injuries were assessed and the victims were stabilized, some of them were loaded into ambulances.  Due to the severity of another victim’s injuries, he was loaded into a North Flight helicopter, who also participated in this event.   This mock disaster provided all the students, along with the paramedics, with essential training and knowledge in emergency preparedness and planning.
