On October 12, 2015, the Wexford-Missaukee Chapter of FFA competed in the 2015 Region 6 Agricultural Decathlon. This FFA event was held at the Ogemaw County Fairgrounds, with 8 chapters from around the state represented. Students competed in events such as forestry, livestock breed identification, legal land description, floral, wildlife identification, crop seed identification, and aquaculture.
The Wexford-Missaukee Chapter from the Career Technical Center placed four teams in the top 10 with 71 total teams represented. The team of Molly Mackey (Cadillac HS) and Matt Mohler (Cadillac HS) was awarded first place. Taking second was the team Macey Dean (Pine River HS), Sheyanne Ecker (Pine River HS) and Cheyenne Gilbert (Pine River HS). Third place award winners were Mason Powell (Pine River HS), Olivia Woods (Pine River HS) and Rylie Mosher (Pine River HS).
“These students worked hard to prepare for this contest and they represented their chapter well,” said Mark Johnson, Instructor and FFA advisor. “I’m very proud of them and their continued efforts in leadership and scholarship.”
The National FFA Organization is intended to prepare student leaders for leadership in careers in science, business, and technology of agriculture. Currently, there are over half a million members nationwide. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing premier leadership, personal growth, and career success in agricultural education.
