CTC Students and Donated Fire Truck

CADILLAC, MI — The Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center (WMCTC) is pleased to announce the donation of a fully equipped fire truck to its Public Safety Program, provided by the Cherry Grove Fire Department in cooperation with the Boon Fire Department. This significant contribution will expand hands-on training opportunities for students preparing for careers in firefighting and emergency response.

The donation was initiated by Chief Noah Knauf of the Cherry Grove Fire Department, who recognized the importance of giving students access to realistic, industry-standard equipment. The newly donated apparatus will now serve as a fully functional training vehicle for students enrolled in the Firefighting and Emergency Medical Response tracks.

“This type of generous support is what helps our students build real skills and real confidence,” said Brett DeAugustine, Instructor. “The opportunity to train on the same equipment used in the field prepares them for the responsibilities and expectations of public safety careers.”

Enhanced Training Opportunities

Students will use the fire truck for:

  • Apparatus operation and equipment-familiarization exercises

  • Live and simulated fire training evolutions

  • Realistic practice in pump operations, hose deployment, and incident management

The addition of this vehicle enhances the authenticity of instruction and strengthens the program’s long-standing commitment to preparing students for real-world public safety roles, including firefighting, law enforcement, and emergency medical services.

Community Partnership in Action

WMCTC extends its sincere appreciation to Chief Noah Knauf, the Cherry Grove Fire Department, and the Boon Fire Department for their continued support of local students and workforce development.

“This partnership is a clear example of how education and community agencies can come together to support the next generation of public safety professionals,” said Gretchen Spedowske, Assistant Superintendent of CTE. “We are grateful for their investment in our students and their futures.”
