The Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District (WMISD) has completed a comprehensive, three-month water testing and improvement process across the Career Technical Center (CTC), General Education, and Special Services buildings to ensure safe, reliable drinking water for students and staff.

During this period, WMISD took a proactive, old-school-responsible approach: test thoroughly, improve infrastructure, and don’t guess. Multiple safeguards were put in place while testing was underway, including:

  • Installation of bottle-filling stations and water coolers to filter drinking water from existing fountains

  • Filters added to all building ice makers

  • Bottled water cooler stations installed throughout buildings as an added precaution

In parallel with these efforts, WMISD participated in the $3 million municipal water infrastructure grant through Haring Township. As part of this project, WMISD connected to the Haring Township municipal water system, with full transition completed in Fall 2025—a long-term investment that strengthens water reliability well into the future.

On December 29, 2025, WMISD received official notification confirming a Non-Community Public Water Supply classification change, indicating that the former well has been formally abandoned. With this change, the district was cleared to resume normal use of drinking fountains across all facilities.

“From testing and filtration to infrastructure upgrades and municipal connection, every step was taken with student and staff safety as the top priority.” said Kim Blaszak, WMISD Superintendent.

WMISD remains committed to transparency, preventative maintenance, and responsible stewardship of district facilities.
